Western Cape region

Western Cape Regional Meeting Brings Practitioners Together

The Western Cape Region hosted its first regional meeting of 2026 on 18 March at Stellenbosch University’s Centre for Student Counselling and Development. The meeting brought together 30 higher education practitioners from across the region, representing CPUT, SU, UCT and UWC, to strengthen collaboration and share institutional developments impacting student support and development.

Celebrating Member Achievements

The Western Cape Region proudly celebrates several professional achievements among its members. Charl Davids (SU) successfully obtained his PhD, while Amy-Lee Daniels (CPUT) completed her Master’s Degree in Social Work. Several Stellenbosch University practitioners also completed or enrolled in the nationally recognised Academic Advising Professional Development programme, reflecting the region’s commitment to professional growth and student success.

Institutional Highlights Across the Region

Regional institutions continue to strengthen student support services. Stellenbosch University announced organisational developments within its student support structures; CPUT is renovating and relaunching its Bellville campus offices, while UCT has expanded its wellness team through several key appointments. At UWC, over 300 volunteers packed more than 40,000 meals through the Rise Against Hunger initiative, demonstrating the university’s commitment to social impact and community engagement.

Regional CPD Event

The Western Cape Region hosted its regional engagement at UWC on 20 May 2026 under the theme: “AI, Mental Health & Student Support Services: Navigating the Pitfalls, Possibilities and Ethical Boundaries”. The event provided practitioners with an opportunity to explore the opportunities and challenges emerging at the intersection of artificial intelligence and student support services.

Vaal North-West Region

Vaal North-West Region Launches Active 2026 Programme

The Vaal North-West Region has commenced 2026 with strong member engagement and a renewed focus on professional development. The region, comprising North-West University and the Vaal University of Technology, continues to strengthen collaboration through regular regional meetings and active participation in national SAACDHE structures.

CPD Programme Focuses on Student Success and Practitioner Development

The region has developed an extensive CPD programme for 2026, featuring topics such as Faith-Based CBT Interventions, Student Success and Skills Development Frameworks, Adolescent Brain Development and Learning, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Parental Involvement in Higher Education. These initiatives aim to equip practitioners with current knowledge and practical strategies to support students more effectively.

Regional Recruitment and Membership Growth Strategy Underway

The Vaal North-West Region has initiated a membership recruitment strategy to expand engagement with higher education institutions and practitioners passionate about student support and development. The initiative seeks to strengthen SAACDHE’s regional footprint while promoting collaboration and professional networking opportunities
